The Faculty of Science and Letters which started its activities with the law numbered 4281, dated July 9, 1997, is one of the first established faculties of İstanbul Kültür University.

Prof. Dr. Çetin Bolcal who undertook the Founder Deanery Duty on September 1, 1997 transferred his task to Prof. Dr. Latif Topraktaş in 2001. The Deanery Duty which holded by Prof. Dr. Latif Topraktaş from 2001 until 2004, Prof. Dr. Dursun Koçer from 2004 until 2008, Prof. Dr.  Atilla Özalpan from 2008 until 2012, Prof. Dr.  Erhan Güzel from 2012 until 2013, Prof. Dr. Ömür Ceylan from 2013 until 2017, and Prof. Dr. H. Ömer Karpuz from 2017 until 2019 has now been successfully conducted by Prof. Dr. Çimen Atak since 2019.

Department of Mathematics and Computer Sciences has started its education life in 1997 with the establishment of the Faculty of Science and Letters of our University under the Department Head and Dean Prof. Dr. Çetin Bolcal. The Chairmanship of Department, after the Founder Head of Department Prof. Dr.  Çetin Bolcal, respectively holded by Prof. Dr. Latif Topaktaş between 1998-2001, Prof. Dr. Erol Balkanay between 2001-2004, Prof. Dr. Latif Topaktaş between 2004-2010 and Prof. Dr. Erhan Güzel between 2010-2016 has now been successfully conducted by Professor Mert Çağlar since 2016.

The department starts its activities in the main building of Şirinevler campus in 1997 and with the increasing number of students moves to the Faculty of Science and Letters Building established in Şirinevler campus in 1999 and continues its education in Ataköy campus since 2005. Since its inception, the Department of Mathematics and Computer Sciences has been conducting basic mathematics courses in Mathematics and Computer Sciences undergraduate education as well as other faculties.
Under the umbrella of the Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences, the Department of Mathematics and Computer Sciences has been providing Graduate programs since 2000 and Doctorate programs in Mathematics since 2003.

In accordance with the decisions of the Chairmanship of the Higher Education Institute the Department of Education for the present department/program names, taken in the Meeting of Higher Education Institute dated 11.03.2020, our present program named the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science has changed into the Department of Mathematics and Computer Sciences.
